She was able to successfully work with both my parents and their very different needs My father had Alzheimer’s, diagnosed in 2009 and becoming progressively worse until he died in 2020. For years, he could not eat by himself, nor get dressed nor bathe. For years, the only person he was certain to recognize was Sonia. She treated him as lovingly as if he were her own My mother had far a les severe form of dementia and she had some physical limitations as well. She needed Sonia’s full-time help. She needed all of her meals prepared, her laundry done, and assistance in getting dressed. Only with Sonia’s help did my mother take her medications when she was supposed to I have no doubt that my parents would not have lived as many years as they did without Sonia’s close care. And over the years, Sonia became close with me and others in the family. She would report faithfully on my parents condition after every sinificant visit to the doctor. Once, when I had my own medical emergency, Sonia drove me to the hospital to make sure that I had all the support that I needed. She ensured that my mother was always fashionably dressed including regular trips to hair and beauty salons, treating her with dignity, respect and kindness Ms. Carter was also a fierce advocate regarding health care. She readily engaged with providers, explaining current concerns, following through on treatment directives, and often providing wound care whose success amazed physicians. Further, as I live in another state, Ms. Carter was entrusted with oversight of basic finances to be used in daily care. Records were immaculately maintained, with no improprieties even remotely suggested. Finally, Ms. Carter is a very warm person who my family considers to be a personal friend. She was deeply impacted by my mother’s passing as we helped each other address this significant loss.
